A Couple Basic Focus Pad Videos

I’m always on the lookout for informative clips that I can throw up on the blog to give you a couple pointers or ideas about training.  I came across a couple by a company that sells focus pads (I have nothing to do with the company and no vested interest in their products.)

But if you are relatively new to focus pad training, you might find the clips useful.

I wrote my Toughen Up Training Guides a while back based on teaching the basics of proper, powerful striking skills.  At the time I was conducting a ton of training with law enforcement officers and high risk professionals.

I found that by teaching the basics of punching, I was able to accelerate the learning curve of developing proper body movement, balance, power generation, subject control stuns, baton strikes and weapon retention.

I developed a “crash course” in Stress Inoculation which was built around a foundation of focus pad drills and was able to teach solid striking skills from scratch in just a couple of hours.

What was evident to all who participated was what a phenomenal and vigorous workout focus pad training could provide.  I’d done focus pad work with experienced martial artists for years but hadn’t done much of it with people with absolutely ZERO experience in striking.

In addition to adding a kicking guide to the ones I’ve already done on punching, focus pad training and heavy bag work, I’m planning a MAJOR revision of the manuals with a much stronger focus on training and workout concepts.  Hence, you’ll see a lot from me on focus pads, the heavy bag, striking shields etc.

Any ways, if you are incorporating focus pad training into your workouts, you might find these videos helpful.  They are basic, but easy to follow and well done.
